What is Batch? does it Really help with rotoscoping?

Yes, Batch really does! Batch is a services company that uses machine-learning technology to automate the rotoscoping process for film & TV, music videos, commercials, YouTube, stock video or… really anything!

What's the difference between Batch’s Color Quality and VFX Quality Mattes? What can I use them for?

Batch Color Quality Mattes are optimized for color grading and finishing. These mattes are great for isolating people from backgrounds and all that entails. It means you can use the people mattes to isolate a sky, and use our depth map to add atmospheric effects and much more! While they are great for the color grade, they don’t have the fine detail, in hair for example, that VFX compositing requires. These mattes are more affordable than our VFX mattes making them a great fit for color and quick turn around temp comps.

‍Batch VFX Quality Mattes are coming soon! These will provide even more precision, designed explicitly for VFX tasks requiring highly detailed edge accuracy for compositing and detailed effects.

When will Batch VFX Quality be available?

Soon, we promise :) Our "VFX Quality" product will deliver mattes suitable for even the most demanding visual effects applications. In the mean time, our Color Quality mattes work great for quick turn around, temporary composites.

Does Batch make it easier to color grade?

Absolutely - and much faster. That means more time for the creative parts of the grade. We use Batch for our own color sessions and love the creative flow. Less time is wasted on tracking, windowing and rendering and more time doing the creative work we love.

Where can I download your software?

Batch is a services company, so there's no software to download. You can send Batch files directly through our online portal or deliver physical hard drives.

I hear you offer depth maps as well?

We do! With our Batch Depth Maps you get another way to isolate people and objects in the frame. We’ve been blown away by the realistic atmospheric effects we’ve been able to do in the color grade. They get super fun when combined with Batch Mattes.

How are Batch's Color Quality mattes different from other services?

Batch’s machine-learning approach delivers consistent results with faster turnaround times and more flexible pricing compared to traditional roto services. Batch is perfect for handling large volumes of footage where other AI tools require operators to go shot by shot, or frame by frame.

Is Batch safe, secure and confidential? Can I use Batch if my project doesn't allow cloud usage?

Absolutely. Batch processes your footage in a TPN certified facility. Batch uses industry standard encryption and robust security measures to ensure that your data remains secure and confidential. We comply with strict privacy standards to protect your project. Our Batch system is housed locally at our facility and is not cloud based. We are able to service all studios and streamers, even those with the strictest of standards. We are also developing a cloud based system for those clients that want that speed and flexibility while being fully secure with end to end encryption.

We also design custom solutions for clients that need Batch to work locally out of their own facility.

What file formats does Batch support? What types of files do I get?

When delivering footage to Batch you’ll get the best results with LOG footage and at least 6 frame handles. That being said, Batch can take any kind of footage you have.

For deliverables you’ll get your choice of EXR’s or ProRes. The multi channel EXR files are bigger and come with mattes labeled for each person by name. ProRes is great if you prefer smaller files.

What software can I use with Batch mattes?

Batch is platform agnostic. Use anything you like!

How much does Batch cost, and what's the typical turnaround time?

Pricing varies based on the project size, complexity, and turnaround time required. Contact our sales team for detailed pricing information. Turnaround times are typically within a few days. Rush services / same day turn around are also available upon request.

How do I send my footage to Batch?

You can upload your footage directly via our secure online portal or through secure file-transfer services we support. We can also accept deliveries of physical hard drives. Soon we will also offer secure cloud services.

How does Batch compare to traditional VFX roto pipelines?

Batch significantly reduces time and costs compared to traditional manual roto methods. With Batch, filmmakers and post-production teams can reallocate resources, speed up workflows, and maintain high quality standards.

How do I get support? What if I need to make revisions?

If you have any questions or concerns with the mattes that Batch delivers contact your sales rep or producer. Batch can offer bespoke revision support for an additional fee.

I'm a cinematographer, how do Batch Mattes help me?

Batch Mattes allow cinematographers greater creative freedom during production and post, enabling precise control over elements like background separation, lighting enhancements, and detailed grading adjustments. Add atmosphere or match densities that changed on set. Light with practicals by easily isolating people and brightening them up.
